Better for YouTube Privacy Policy

Better for YouTube is a Chrome extension that runs only on youtube.com. It is not affiliated with YouTube or Google LLC.

Data we process

To provide its enabled features, Better for YouTube reads video titles, channel names, durations, thumbnails, YouTube URLs, and video IDs already on the page. When Detailed publish time is on, it reads naturally returned same-origin player details and checks missing loaded videos through the same YouTube endpoint, with at most two requests in flight and one check per video per tab. It keeps only the response’s video ID and public publishDate and never sends the rest outside the page.

What stays on your computer

Video titles, video IDs, public publish times, channels, thumbnails, URLs, queue contents, subscription folders, and filter text stay on your computer. Publish-time mappings exist only in the current tab’s memory and disappear on refresh, tab close, or content-script reload. These values are never included in analytics. Better for YouTube does not sell data or use it for advertising.

Optional anonymous usage data

Anonymous product analytics are off by default. If you turn them on in the extension options, Better for YouTube sends only six kinds of low-cardinality events to Google Analytics: a queue source became available, a queue was created, an item started, a queue ended, a sanitized error occurred, or a subscription action completed.

Event parameters are limited to fixed categories and ranges such as source type, action result, item-count range, latency range, completion range, extension version, interface language, a random session number, and minimal engagement time. They never include video or channel identifiers, titles, folders, URLs, paths, searches, filters, queue contents, account identifiers, exception text, or stack traces. Google Analytics is the only recipient, and the data is used only to evaluate product features and reliability.

Storage

• The current tab queue is stored in Chrome session storage and is removed when you end the queue, close the tab, restart the browser, or reload the extension.
• First-run state and local subscription folders stay in local storage until you clear extension data or uninstall Better for YouTube.
• The three feature switches stay in local storage. Changing them does not change analytics consent.
• If analytics are on, local storage holds your consent and a random analytics identifier. A random analytics session is rotated after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Your choice and retention

You can leave analytics undecided, decline them, or turn them off at any time in the extension options without affecting queue or subscription features. Turning them off stops future requests, deletes the local analytics identifier and session, and removes the optional Google Analytics permission. Google Analytics retains previously sent event and user data for 2 months; new activity does not reset that period. The local switch cannot remotely delete data already sent.
